Design Philosophy
It’s not about us. We win plenty of awards. It’s about our clients, their needs and wants, their brands, consumers and competition. We don’t have any trademarked process. Rather, we’ve 30 years of experience developing design systems that work. We listen. We spend time in stores and do a lot of research. We ask questions, think and sift. Then we start sketching. With pencils. The Mac comes in handy at this stage and based on the sketches we develop a wide range of choices. Options are narrowed until we (the greater we) find what’s right for the brand, consumer, shelf and vs. the competition. Sometimes we create final mechanicals for a few SKUs, sometimes we extend to 1,000 or more.

Michael Osborne Design is a packaging design firm of 16 people in San Francisco since 1981. We primarily work in food & beverage, wine & spirits and private label. Our clients range from startups to the Fortune 100. Michael Osborne Design creates design systems that last because we focus on the consumer, brand and shelf to build brands that sell stuff. Some examples of our work that has lasted include Archer Farms (2003), Gymboree (1999), Kettle chips (2004) and Clos du Bois (2003). Recently we’ve been working with Sam’s Club to create three new brands Artisan Fresh, Daily Chef and Simply Right.
