Petroleum marketer and convenience store operator MAPCO Express hired former A&P executive Russ Shrewsberry as its first-ever director of private label, a position that few convenience store companies have.
This new position, and other executive management appointments, is part of the 500-store regional chain's strategic growth plan, according to a report in Convenience Store News.
"During the past six months, MAPCO's leadership has developed a series of strategic growth initiatives designed to improve our brand positioning, grow our market share and increase our overall profitability as an organization," said Igal Zamir, president of MAPCO Express, a wholly owned subsidiary of Delek U.S. Holdings. "Although significant progress has been made in the development of a well-defined long-term strategy, the implementation of this strategy required that we add fresh talent to our ranks -- individuals with both the industry experience and the passion to help us to take the business to the next level."
Shrewsberry served as U.S. Director of A&P and director, own-brand customer development prior to that. Shrewsberry is charged with developing and driving MAPCO store brand growth, the company said.
Nashville, Tenn.-based MAPCO Express operates stores in Memphis, Chattanooga and Nashville, Tenn., northern Georgia, northern Alabama and Richmond, Va.
