Safeway Hopes to Raise $2.5 million for Breast Cancer Research

As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Safeway’s company-wide campaign will donate $5 to local and national breast cancer charities for every $30 in eligible store-brand and national-brand shopper purchases.
As part of a secondary campaign, shoppers who buy $30 in participating frozen or dairy products in a single transaction from Sept. 30 to Oct. 29 will receive free pink cooler bags emblazoned with the Safeway campaign logo, “Together for a Cure." Cash donations, which also are being accepted at checkout, is collected and distributed by the Safeway Foundation.
Since 2001, Safeway has raised nearly $60 million for breast cancer research in its 1,512 stores, according to a company statement.
Safeway’s campaign this year is supported by consumer packaged goods companies General Mills, Kraft Foods, Sargento Foods, PepsiCo, Birds Eye Foods, Unilever and Procter & Gamble.
