Store Brands Food Safety Benchmarking Survey Underway

October 27, 2009
The industry's first benchmarking survey to gauge retailer plans for adopting Global Food Safety Industry (GFSI) certification standards is underway. The survey, underwritten and conducted by Store Brands Decisions, is the first in a series of proprietary studies planned by the digital publisher.
"It's clear that food safety is one of the most important industry issues affecting the entire store brands supply chain for food and beverages," said John Failla, president of Store Brands Decisions about why the publisher is undertaking the study. "Retailers want to know how their food safety certification plans compare to the broader food retailing industry. We felt a landmark initial benchmarking study focusing on adoption of GFSI certification standards would be a real service to the industry".
This initial study will look at the following topics:
* Retailer plans to make GFSI certification mandatory for store brand suppliers.
* Retailer's current and future plans for sourcing store brand food products from emerging markets.
* Which GFSI certification standards are retailers accepting?
* Which departments within retail companies will have responsibility for making policy decisions related to food safety certification?
Store Brands Decisions developed the survey with the input of several major food retailers. "We wanted to make sure that the study focused in on the right questions that retailers had the most interest in," Failla added.
Responses to the survey are entirely confidential and only retailers who participate in the survey will receive a summary of the results. A top-line summary of the study will be published in an upcoming issue of Store Brand Decisions' newsletter.
Retailers interested in participating in the survey and receiving a summary of the findings can contact Store Brands Decisions at 914.574.5709 or at jfailla@storebrandsdecisions.com.
