Wal-Mart and Kroger Recall Select Store Brand Dairy Products

November 3, 2009
Morningstar Foods is recalling a number of dairy products -- including whipping cream and chocolate ice cream mix products used in grocery store brands -- because they might contain soy protein, which is not noted on the label or packaging.
The recalled items include certain units of Wal-Mart’s 32-ounce Great Value Half & Half; 32-ounce Great Value Heavy Whipping Cream; 32-ounce Kroger brand Heavy Whipping Cream; and 64-ounce Wholesome Farms Chocolate Ice Cream Mix.
The labeling error poses a danger to people allergic to soy if consumed, however, Morningstar said no reactions have been reported but the problem was discovered when consumers reported off-taste in some products, according to an Associated Pres report. The recalled products were distributed to retail stores in 31 states.
