Minneapolis-based Supervalu named Steve Jungmann, a former Solo Cup and Kraft Foods executive, as its new executive vice president of merchandising.

His last position at Kraft was vice president of category sales.

"Steve is the right person to lead Supervalu’s merchandising teams as we look to grow top line sales," said Craig Herkert, CEO and president. "His track record of understanding and leveraging consumer behavior will be invaluable as we continue our focus on becoming America's Neighborhood Grocer, and I'm excited to have him join our team.

Jungmann will join Supervalu in early February and report to Herkert.

Moving south to Matthews N.C., Family Dollar named Don Hamblen, a former Sears and Payless Shoesource executive, to the post of senior vice president of customer marketing.

Hamblen began his marketing career as a brand manager with Procter & Gamble, and most recently served as chief marketing officer for Sears and prior to that headed the marketing department at Payless Shoesource.

"Our focus on the customer has never been stronger or more important," said Dorlisa Flur, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, to whom Hamblen will report. "We've invested significantly to know our customer and understand how to better serve her. Don brings extensive experience in communicating to a broad and diverse retail customer base. Through his leadership we'll enhance communications to our customers and reinforce our position of value and convenience through our portfolio of private label brands and an improved in-store shopping experience."

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Hamblen holds a Bachelor of Science degree in American Political Systems from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis.

Both Jungmann and Hamblen will have oversight responsibility for store brands at their respective companies.
