Sam's Reorganizes Its Merchandising Department

Sam's Club exteriorSam's Club has reorganized its merchandising teams, organization, according to an internal memo circulating in the U.S. trade press, according to a Planet Retail report.

The memo distributed by Linda Hefner, Sam's executive vice president of merchandising and replenishment, reportedly stated: "Over the last six months, Sam's Club merchandising leadership has developed and communicated a new Sam's Club merchandising strategy, which emphasizes a portfolio approach with clear roles for each category, to serve our members better. The merchandising leadership team has also developed individual category strategies aligned with the portfolio strategy. As we aggressively drive these strategies, we will be particularly focused on driving differentiated quality, service, and club experience in fresh, health and wellness, technology and seasonal categories."

The merchandising team will be organized into five major category groups focused on serving the needs of both business and Advantage members. The following executives will be leading those groups -- Charles Redfield, food and beverage; Jill Turner-Mitchell, health and wellness; Steve Dacus, technology and entertainment; Marybeth Cornwell, home and apparel; and Michael Heintzman, fuel, auto, tobacco and candy.

Other shifts, according to the memo, who will report directly to Hefner, include: Brad Feagans, vice president of feature planning and roadshows; George Agnacian, senior director pricing; Amy Zettlemoyer-Lazar, senior director packaging and supplier diversity; and Jason Shaw, senior director merchandising strategy, according to the report.
