Treehouse logoTreeHouse Foods' E.D. Smith subsidiary signed an agreement to directly supply the Canadian retail store brand non-dairy creamer business rather than sell through Sandra, a privately owned Canadian manufacturer of tea, coffee and related products.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed, but are not expected to have a material effect on TreeHouse, according to a company statement.

For more than 30 years Sandra has been the leading supplier of store brand non-dairy creamer in Canada. E.D. Smith is a wholly owned Canadian subsidiary of Bay Valley Foods and has been a supplier of non-dairy creamer to Sandra during this period.

"The addition of the retail private label non-dairy creamer business will allow E.D. Smith to continue building its growing presence in the Canadian market and expanding its relationships with Canada's leading retailers," said Harry J. Walsh, president of Bay Valley Foods.

TreeHouse Foods, through its Bay Valley Foods and E.D. Smith subsidiaries, is the largest supplier of store brand retail non-dairy creamer in North America. Bay Valley Foods is also a leading supplier of bulk non-dairy creamer to numerous food companies as an ingredient for a wide range of products and for use in the foodservice market.

TreeHouse is a food manufacturer primarily serving the retail grocery and foodservice channels. Its products include non-dairy powdered coffee creamer; canned soup, salad dressings and sauces; salsa and Mexican sauces; jams and pie fillings. Under the E.D. Smith brand it offers pickles and related products; infant feeding products; and other food products including aseptic sauces, refrigerated salad dressings, and liquid non-dairy creamer.

TreeHouse believes it is the largest manufacturer of pickles and non-dairy powdered creamer in the United States and the largest manufacturer of store brand salad dressings in the United States and Canada based on sales volume, according to the statement.
