walgreens storeAs the nation's largest drug chain intends to expand into fresh foods, it tapped Jim Jensen who held a similar position at Tesco's Fresh & Easy chain on the West Coast, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

Before joining Fresh & Easy Jensen worked for Dallas-based 7-Eleven. Jensen joins former Fresh & Easy colleague Bryan Pugh who last March was named vice president of merchandising for Walgreens after joining the company earlier in the year as vice president of store format development.

Walgreens currently offers fresh food in approximately 200 urban stores, spokeswoman Tiffani Washington told the Wall Street Journal. The company will selectively choose in which stores to add and expand fresh foods, she said, adding that the chain does not plan to include foodservice  in all of its 7,000 stores. Walgreens will target its busiest and most convenient locations, according to the report, but Washington declined to reveal the stores and the company investment in the program.
