Wegmans introduced a new line of store brand frozen mixed vegetables, called Special Blends, which are flash-frozen with less than two hours between harvest and processing, according to the company's web site.

The varieties include Broccoli, Cauliflower and Pine Nuts in an olive oil, garlic and herb sauce; Grilled Vegetables including fire-roasted eggplant, zucchini, peppers and onions; Wild Brown and Red Rice with carrots, scallions and parsley; Green Beans and Shallots; and Ginger and Garlic Stir Fry. Each 1-pound bag retails for $3.99.

"We picked the most popular mixtures from our Chef's Case in our Prepared Foods Department, and from Wegmans Menu magazine pages and worked with the Contessa Premium Foods Co. to replicate the flavors," said Mary Ellen Burris, senior vice president of consumer affairs, in her column.\"This California partner [also] produces our popular Travels of Asia frozen meals."
