By increasing its Finest store brand wines to include an additional 23 SKUs, Tesco hopes to double its sales, according to a Planet Retail report.
Tesco will be increasing its store brand wines from the current 77 SKUs to more than 100 wines to encourage shoppers to trade up, although the company said it intends to keep deals in place such as its three bottles for $16.23.
Tesco plans to test plastic bottles for its store brand spirits, one of a number of steps the retailer is taking to reduce its carbon footprint. The company’s store brand brandy currently is offered in a plastic bottle, which the Planet Retail report said reduces packaging by 86 percent. Using plastic also reduces the amount of outer packaging required since it is not as fragile as glass.
Tesco also sells wine in Tetra Paks and PET bottles and recently launched a glass wine bottle that weighs 300 grams, which is 30 percent lighter than most other glass wine bottles, according to the report.
