Hannaford store frontHannaford, a Delhaize grocery chain, modified recipes for 295 store brand items to remove artery-clogging trans fats from its entire store brand food line, according to a report in MPBN News.

"Our shoppers want choices that help them save money and eat better, and the Hannaford brand can help on both counts," said Hannaford spokeswoman Julie Green, who added that all store brand foods now have zero grams of added trans fats per serving.

Greene said the 173-store chain based in Scarborough, Maine, also plans to add deli salads to its line up and change bakery cake recipes to make them healthier.

Operating in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont, Hannaford has also expanded its gluten-free product line. A new online tool at my.hannaford.com also helps customers “create personalized menus based on their individual dietary needs,” Green said.
