Aldi's new Bremer Select store brand entrees are using a combination of flexible packaging and a thermal processing technique that reportedly delivers restaurant quality results.
Previously available to cook frozen vegetables, the packaging and cooking technology is now expanding into foods that feature raw and frozen meat and fish, according to a report in FoodProcessing.com.
Aldi’s entrees are packaged in microwavable pouches “engineered to cook like a Dutch oven, only quicker,” according to the report which said the entrees are packaged in a “form-fill-seal pouch made from a flexible packaging material that incorporates a patterned microwave susceptor between layers of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and kraft paper.”
The combination of flexible packaging and thermal processing techniques is helping manufacturers deliver better tasting frozen foods
