Store brand sales of over-the-counter (OTC) pain and allergy remedies are rising as Johnson & Johnson sales collapsing as it recalls even more products, including regular Tylenol and now Benadryl.
Over the past month, OTC store brands have increased 23 percent to $51.9 million as J&J’s sales have plunged 56 percent, according to Symphony IRI Group data quoted by the Associated Press.
Shoppers are becoming more wary of purchasing J&J products as the company announced its eight recall this week, which included 21 more lots of Tylenol, Children’s Tylenol and Benadryl.
On April 30 more than 130 million bottles of infant and children’s cold formulas were recalled due to a chemical used on shipping pallets that caused nausea. The company said new lots were added this week when it was discovered that these products were also shipped stored on the same type of wooden pallets, according to the report.
