A&P Launches Two Private Label Value Lines at Pathmark

A&P introduced a line of value-tiered private label products under the Food Basics and Home Basics labels at all of its Pathmark stores.
The new lower priced items are part of a Pathmark’s repositioning, according to A&P executives. “This economy has definitely affected our customers’ shopping budgets,” Sam Martin, CEO of A&P said in a statement. “The new Food Basics and Home Basics brands will allow our shoppers to buy all their household necessities for much less than national brands.”
Distinguished by yellow labels and marketed with the slogan –– “Now seeing YELLOW means saving GREEN!,” the food line includes both shelf-stable and perishable goods such as cereal, cheese, produce and meat, while Home Basics includes non-edible products such as household paper goods, laundry detergent, baby products and automotive products.
Montvale, N.J.-based A&P said it plans to introduce the new value-tier brands in its 12 Food Basics limited assortment discount stores in a few months.
