Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co unveiled an exclusive new collection of international specialties under The Food Emporium Trading Company brand, named after the company’s gourmet retail chain in New York.
“From the markets of Marrakech to the olive groves of Italy, from the best bakeries to the tropics of Thailand, The Food Emporium Trading Company has searched far and wide to bring back some of the best undiscovered culinary garnishes, snacks and sauces,” the company promoted on the Food Emporium web site. “So leave the passport at home and let The Food Emporium Trading Company take your taste buds on a trip they won’t soon forget.”
Promoted with the tagline “Taste What the World Has to Offer,” international specialty items include Italian Gelato, Panettone and spaghetti sauces, first cold-pressed olive oil from Spain, organic coconut milk for the preparation of Thai cuisine, assorted salsas, French inspired chocolate truffles…and cheesecake from New York.
The new brand will be sold in A&P, Food Emporium, Waldbaum’s and SuperFresh stores. It is unclear at the juncture what the introduction of this brand means, if anything, to A&P’s Via Roma, an authentic Italian store brand developed and introduced in 2009.
As part of its turnaround plan, A&P last week announced it plans to enhance the customer experience and value proposition by refining its product mix, pricing and promotions initiatives as well as “enhancing and expanding its private label brands, including America's Choice, Food Basics and The Food Emporium Trading Company.”
