Sam’s Club launched its private brand Calle Azul anejo tequila, which is now available in more than 250 locations.
Calle Azul, which is 100 percent agave anejo tequila produced by the Rodolfo Gonzalez family of Mexico and imported by The Sazerac Company, is available in a 750 milliliter bottle and retails for $19.99. Membership is not required to purchase alcohol on location.
“We know that our members are looking for great values on the items they need for entertaining family and friends and we are proud to offer this fine unique artisan tequila,” said Mark Kenny, senior director of wine, beer and spirits for Sam’s Club.
Calle Azul is double distilled using the traditional pot still method from hand-selected agave grown in the Highlands of Jalisco and is aged for a minimum of 18 months in American oak barrels. Spirits experts have already awarded Calle Azul with a 2010 Gold Medal at the Spirit of Mexico Tequila Competition, a score of 91 points from the Beverage Tasting Institute and a score of 92 points, meaning “excellent and highly recommended”, from Paul Pacult’s 2010 Ultimate Spirits Challenge, according to a company statement.
“Created by Mexican tequila master Rodolfo Gonzalez using his family’s 125-year-old distilling process, Calle Azul is truly an amazing anejo tequila that meets the highest industry standards for both quality and flavor,” said David Grapshi, tequila national sales manager for the Sazerac Company. “Its unique taste and aroma are a result of the small batch distillation process passed down through three generations of the Gonzalez family.
