Tesco to Unveil Additional Ethnic Food Lines

Due to the increasingly multi-cultural population that is demanding world flavors, Tesco plans to introduce seven new ethnic food lines.
urkish, Sri Lankan, Latin, Filipino and African foods will first be tested in London stores, according to a Planet Retail report.
The U.K. retailer’s Afro-Caribbean, Asian and Oriental have already become the fastest growing area of Tesco’s overall food revenue, according to a spokesperson who noted: “There is growing demand from people who have settled here to buy food from their homelands.”
Over the past year, Tesco has doubled its ethnic food lines, which now include 3,000 SKUs, because category sales have risen by 35 percent over the past year, according to the report.
SBD Views: While I doubt the U.S. market is ready for Sri Lankan cuisine the potential growth opportunity for store brands ethnic foods has been barely scratched.
