Aldi to Roll Out Larger Stores

Aldi’s newest stores are slightly larger than previous designs and the retailer is also including new features it has reportedly been testing this past year

aldi store frontThe new store size is larger by about 1,500 square feet, from 16,500 to 18,000 square feet. Predominantly a store brands retailer, Aldi’s newest store also features a “few tweaks in its interior layout that was tested over the last year and is now approved for expansion throughout the chain,” Chris Stair, a real estate director with Aldi told Supermarket News.

Next week the retailer plans to open the newest store design in Batavia, Ill., where the U.S. division of the German chain is based.

In addition to more selling “this kind of design in a freestanding store also gives us the flexibility to expand the store in the future,” Stair said.
