The Consumer Goods Forum published the GFSI Guidance Document Sixth Edition, which outlines how food safety schemes can gain recognition and provides guidance to schemes seeking compliance.

The GFSI Guidance Document also specifies the requirements to be put in place for a food safety scheme seeking recognition by GFSI and the key elements for production of safe food, according to the Consumer Goods Forum

All schemes currently recognized against the Fifth Edition (2007) will maintain their recognition by GFSI until Dec. 31 2011. All of these schemes have been invited to reapply for full benchmarking to the Sixth Edition (2011). All updates to the current sixth edition document can be found at mygfsi.com.

“We would like to thank everyone involved for their contribution to this document which reflects a true global stakeholder approach, and we hope that it will be a valuable tool for the food industry,” said Catherine François, director of food Safety program/GFSI for The Consumer Goods Forum.
