Winn-Dixie Gives Space Coast Family an Extreme Grocery Gift

The Hurston family received a gift of one year’s worth of groceries from Winn-Dixie at the conclusion of a weeklong build of the family’s new home as part of the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” in Coco, Fla.
The gift was presented to Joe and Cindy Hurston (at right in the photo) by Mark Nyquist, district manager of Winn-Dixie, and Irene Tymczyszyn, senior director of the grocer's private label innovation.
The Jacksonville, Fla.-based grocer was one of the local corporate partners in the construction project, dubbed “Extreme Makeover Space Coast Edition.” More than 100 Winn-Dixie associates spent a day helping build the walls of the family’s new home. The grocer -- which operates 484 retail grocery stores in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia and Mississippi -- also stocked the Hurston’s new kitchen with food.
In addition, Winn-Dixie provided its store brands snacks and drinks for the hundreds of volunteers and skilled trades people working around the clock on the weeklong project.
More than a year ago, the Hurston family lost their home to flooding and had little or no insurance money to help them rebuild before this relief project.
