Wegmans Drives Blog Engagement With Contest

February 8, 2011
Wegmans Food Markets is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Menu Magazine with a “Products We Love” contest for its store brands.
To enter the contest, shoppers must first subscribe to Wegmans Fresh Stories blog by email and then in the comments section specify which of Wegmans store brands products they “fell in love with over the past decade and why.” Rules permit only one entry per person.
Wegmans said it chose this time of year for the contest because “it’s nearly Valentine’s Day and love is in the air.” On the blog the company wrote: “Did Basting Oil capture your heart? Was it love at first bite the first time you tried our Super Yogurt? Did the Ultimate Chocolate Cake take your breath away? Share with us for a chance to win!”
The contest runs through Feb. 28. One winner, selected randomly, will receive a gift basket filled with the grocer’s favorite store brands, valued at $150. Some products including the grocer’s 12-inch sauté pan, Basting Oil, Pumpkin Seed Oil, Thai Culinary Stock, Super Pasta and a $40 Wegmans’ gift card.
SBD Views: I like the way this innovative marketing program engages consumers with social media and fosters an emotional connection with Wegmans' store brands. The data and insights captured from shopper comments will be an added bonus. -- John Failla for Store Brands Decisions
