Janel Haugarth, the new executive vice president of merchandising and logistics, said in the letter that the changes are effective immediately and Mayberry will report to her directly.
“Sam has a long and established career of experience in merchandising and marketing, and I think he will be great in this role,” Haugarth wrote. “Sam will oversee a team of talented individuals who will help us continue to drive growth and innovation in our private brands organization that will result in more sales at our banners and with our independent retailers. This is a key component of our company growth strategy.”
This marks the grocer’s second significant store brands merchandising team restructuring in a year as Supervalu struggles to increase top-line sales and profits. Nearly a year ago Abraham was promoted to lead the store brands’ team by Steve Jungmann, former executive vice president of merchandising. Jungmann joined Supervalu in January 2010 and departed less than a year later. Jungmann was replaced by Haugarth who reports directly to CEO Craig Herkert.
Jerry Olson will assume Mayberry’s current position -- which he held since September 2009 – to become vice president of enterprise vendor efficiency and independent merchandising.
Mayberry has been with Supervalu for more than 25 years, and spent five years in the supply chain services Northern region as the vice president of category management before being named senior vice president of merchandising and sales for the Albertsons Southern California division.
With Supervalu for 32 years, Olson’s most recent position was vice president of vendor efficiency. Prior to that, he was vice president of merchandising for the supply chain Eastern region.
