Carrefour, the world’s second-largest retailer ,has signed a long-term agreement to jointly develop private label beauty care products.
This alliance is intended to leverage the scale and geographical presence of Carrefour and the advanced beauty knowledge of the Boots contract manufacturing business (BCM) to build one of Carrefour’s core pillars --- the beauty category. Carrefour and Boots will also explore healthcare partnership possibilities in emerging geographies with a vision to further strengthening their cooperation, the French retailer said in a statement.
BCM will manufacture beauty products taken from Boots formulations, which will be sold under the Carrefour brand name, a Carrefour spokesperson told CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com. The spokesperson notes that the line will most likely include color cosmetics, skin care, hair care and bath and shower products.
“This new partnership with Boots is a major step forward for Carrefour. It will allow us to make a quantum leap in the beauty category,” said Lars Olofsson, Carrefour’s CEO. “This partnership will significantly enhance Carrefour’s attractiveness in a key category and should be a major contributor to become the preferred retailer.”
