Fresh & Easy Imports New Frozen Gourmet Italian Pizzas

Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market introduced a new line of handcrafted frozen artisan pizzas from Italy under the Gourmet brand, which was introduced last month.
Retailing for $3.99. the pizzas are handcrafted in Visso, an Italian village outside Rome known for its extremely pure water from Monti Sibillini National Park. The pizza maker, who gives the pizzas a traditional, rustic Italian crust by double-proofing the dough, bakes the pizzas in a stone oven.
Pizza varieties include Margherita, with tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and basil; Four Cheese, with mozzarella, edamer, emmanthal and gran moravia cheeses, and Italian balsamic vinegar from Modena, Italy; and Pesto & Arugula, a Liguria Region specialty featuring pesto made with basil, crushed garlic, grated hard cheese, and pine nuts and olive oil, all from Italy.
In addition to the new Gourmet pizzas, Fresh & Easy’s chefs have worked on innovative ways to develop Gourmet products, the company said in a statement. For example, Fresh & Easy uses the special sous-vide cooking method – which slowly cooks food at a slightly lower temperature in specially designed pouches to vastly improve flavor and texture -- for several of its entrees.
Fresh & Easy operates 165 stores in California, Arizona and Nevada.
