After building Dollar General's store brands business for the past three years from ground zero to the robust offering it has today, Terry C. Lee, senior vice president of private brands, announced he is leaving the company at the end of the month.
Gary Stephens, senior director of private brands, will now report directly to Senior Vice President/General Merchandising Manager Consumables Jim Thorpe, “providing a new partnership within the new merchandising team,” Lee wrote in a letter to suppliers announcing his departure.

Lee said he has accomplished his primary objective of building a value-driven and quality portfolio of store brands for Dollar General during his tenure.
"Starting literally from the ground floor, we have built an entirely new program that has been a major contributor to Dollar General’s growth and our position as the industry’s leading retailer,” Lee wrote. “The tremendous growth in sales and share since I joined Dollar General is a reflection of the incredible private brands team at Dollar General and your strong support.”
Prior to joining Dollar General, Lee was vice president of corporate brands for Supervalu’s Albertsons for four years and vice president of corporate brands for Safeway for nearly four years.
