Presented by Robert Parvis, director of packaging for Sam’s Club, the session titled “Integrating Packaging Innovation and Sustainability into Sam’s Club and Walmart,” will provide an overview of the journey Sam’s Club and Walmart have taken to make packaging in their retail formats more sustainable.
“With heightened industry interest on packaging innovation and sustainability, we’re thrilled to be presenting this special keynote presentation,” said John Failla, founder, publisher and editorial director of Store Brands Decisions. “We think industry suppliers will get special benefit from this exclusive presentation as it will provide insights on how they can potentially use sustainable packaging to grow their business.”
The presentation will include a perspective on Walmart’s journey with sustainable packaging and key lessons learned, examples of sustainable packaging success stories that have delivered both environmental and economic benefit, and an overview of where Walmart is going with its sustainable packaging efforts.
“Walmart’s willingness to share lessons learned from their experience with sustainable packaging is evidence of their commitment to advancing adoption throughout the industry,” Failla noted.
Parvis has been a leader within the Packaging Sustainable Value Network at Walmart since joining the company in 2007 and is currently responsible for packaging across store brands, national brands, and direct imports at Sam’s Club where he and his team work with buyers, product suppliers and packaging suppliers to optimize packaging for the club environment with a focus on safety, efficiency and interaction with its members.
In addition to multiple management positions within the packaging department, Parvis also led a supply chain team at Sam’s Club responsible for cost savings and integration with buyers. Prior to joining Sam’s Club in 2007, Parvis worked at Clorox in packaging research and development.
Store Brands Decisions will host its 2nd annual Innovation & Marketing Summit March 1-2, 2012 in Chicago.
Last year’s inaugural Summit attracted upwards of 250 attendees from retail companies, store brands manufacturers and service providers engaged across various channels of trade – grocery, mass, club, dollar, drug, convenience and specialty retailers.
