Loblaw’s President’s Choice store brand is building on its multi-year commitment to support education, research and student nutrition programs with a $2.6 million donation to Breakfast for Learning.

President's Choice logoThe donation is most recent in a program begun in 2010 when the brand made a $7.2 million donation to the program. The latest donation will help fund 4,523 programs across Canada for the 2011/2012 school year.

The funds support education and research programs, and student nutrition programs that aim to give students access to healthy breakfasts, lunches and snacks. Loblaw’s corporate and participating franchise stores have partnered with schools in their local community to assist with their nutrition programs.

"President's Choice Children's Charity is committing significant resources to help Canadian children live to their full potential. The charity supports children's health and wellness with a focus on childhood nutrition and children with disabilities," said Galen G. Weston, chair of President's Choice® Children's Charity and executive chairman, Loblaw Cos. Ltd.

Research shows that well-nourished students show improved memory, problem-solving skills and creative abilities - overall, they perform better in school. With supporters like President's Choice Children's Charity, Breakfast for Learning's funds will serve approximately 425,000 children across the country.

President’s Choice is the largest national sponsor of Breakfast for Learning but just one part of the charity. President's Choice Children's Charity also helps children who are physically or developmentally challenged with individual grants of up to $20,000 to assist with the costs of equipment, home accessibility, respite care, developmental and physical therapy and accessible vehicles. In 2011, the Charity granted approximately $10 million to more than 1,800 families with children with disabilities across Canada.
