Scarborough, Maine-based Hannaford Supermarkets has just introduced two new store brands product lines -- Taste of Inspirations Greek Frozen Yogurt, an industry first, and a line of kids frozen meals.
Taste of Inspirations Greek Frozen Yogurt was developed to capitalize on the growth of Greek yogurt in the dairy category, hoping to extend the trend into the frozen yogurt category, which has been relatively flat, the company reported. The Greek frozen yogurt is now available in strawberry, black raspberry, pomegranate and blueberry, and vanilla.
The flavor profiles were created based upon the top selling ice cream and frozen yogurt flavors, however the company is already exploring new flavor extensions. The target customer is the Greek yogurt buyer looking for a healthier frozen dessert. Taste of Inspirations Greek Frozen Yogurt has half the butter fat of traditional ice cream and added protein.
Kids’ Meals
Hannaford Frozen Kids Meals are healthier meals designed to appeal to all children -- Mac & Cheese (American), Spaghetti Burrito (Italian), Orange Chicken (Asian) and Campfire Casserole (Mexican) set off in playful packaging and design.
The target audience is parents and guardians as well as children. Parents will be attracted to the healthier attributes, and children by the flavor profiles and whimsical packaging design. Hannaford’s registered dietician and quality assurance team worked with its supplier to reduce sodium, add vitamins and use whole grains, the grocer reported.
Hannaford -- which operates 179 stores in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont -- said it plans to add more SKUs to this line of products based on sales results.
